Butterfly Beach Goa – Hidden Honeymoon beach in South Goa

To the south of Palolem beach in Cancona, Goa lies the hidden gem of Goa called ‘Butterfly beach Goa’.

Butterfly beach, also famously known as Honeymoon Beach, is in the form of small cove or crescent and is surrounded by dense trees and rock.

It is mostly remote and is quite difficult to reach by foot and impossible to reach by car or bike. Therefore being one of the most secluded beaches in Goa. Tourists can get to this beach by hopping onto a ferry from the neighboring beach of Palolem.

What to do at Butterfly Beach Goa

The reason this beach is called the butterfly beach is because of the trees that surround it, which attracts a wide variety of butterflies. It may also be because the beach itself is in the shape of a butterfly! 

You can also trek through the forest to get to this quiet little beach, but the best and most efficient way to reach Butterfly Beach is by boat from the nearby Palolem or Agonda beaches. 

Enclosed by a thick forest on one side and the open Arabian Sea on the other, the beach has a unique and picturesque landscape that makes it stand out. 

This spectacular beach is a well-known site to spot some dolphins, crabs, and goldfish. Here at Butterfly Beach, you will have an opportunity to observe the most amazing sunset while you sit on a rock with your picnic basket. 

Butterfly Beach has no touristic infrastructure at all, and visitors who take a boat from Palolem or Agonda need to carry food, drinks and other supplies with you. But make sure to keep the beach clean, and pick up all your belongings without littering this beautiful paradise, so that it always remains the treasure part of Goa.

What to see at Butterfly Beach Goa

 1. A lot of different species of Butterflies at the beach. You will also be able to spot numerous sea creatures such as Crabs, goldfish, sea urchins, and even sea cucumbers at the beach only during low tides. 

2. See dolphins bathing in the sea just off the shore of the butterfly beach. The silent and stillness of this secluded beach attract more dolphins than other beaches.

3. You can enjoy some amazing sunsets on this beach. 

The other things you can do at the beach are:- Canoe riding along tiny streams, boat ride to nearby beaches, sunbathing, walking on the beaches, rock climbing, and trekking through the forest cover

There are some other wonderful sites and places worth visiting around the butterfly beach. Some of these are

1 Conco island:

The Conco Island is quite a popular destination in South Goa for island hopping. Interestingly, the island is also called “the Monkey Island” as it was inhabited by monkeys that lived in the surrounding forests.

2 Leopard Valley:

Leopard valley is a biggest night club and party venue situated in North between Agonda and Palolem.

3 Palolem beach :

Located in the south of Goa in a village district known as Canacona, Palolem beach stretches about 2 km forming a beautiful cressant shape, and  making it the most attractive beach in Goa.

4 Agonda Beach :

The Agonda beach remains isolated throughout the year. Therefore it is considered to be a good choice for those who want to be away from the busy daily lifestyle back home. The water at this beach is calm but sometimes uneasy.

Best time to visit Butterfly Beach

The best time to visit this beautiful beach known as Butterfly Beach is between November and March. During these months, the temperatures are pleasant, and there isn’t much rain.

How to reach Butterfly Beach

Butterfly beach is 37 km from Margao, 69 km from Panjim, around 80 km from Calangute and around 61 km from Dabolim Airport

A short trek from Palolem Beach, which is adventurous and tough. Travelers will have to go through brooks, steep climbs, fields, and forested areas to get to Butterfly beach by trekking. 

The other option is hiring a boat from either Palolem or Agonda beaches. 

You may hire a cab or take a bus up to Palolem beach from Panaji. From the Palolem beach, take a short boat ride that will get you to Butterfly Island.

Conclusion

The most secluded beach in Goa is Butterfly Beach. But it is the best place to picnic and it is worth visiting. You will see gorgeous sea creatures, a lot of beautiful butterflies, and the most amazing sunset here!
